Due date approaching? Best book a holiday!
Now I know full well that as the birth of your first baby approaches you’ve got quite a bit on your mind. From pre-washing minute baby clothes (last time you’ll ever bother to do that) to stressing each other out with every phone call (my entire office used to prick up their ears each time my phone rang for weeks before) - you’ve got enough to worry about.
Here’s my one piece of advice - in 4-5 months time, when you’re out of the dark period and are settling down to your new life, you’ll want a holiday. And you’ll want a completely different sort of holiday to what you wanted before.
Fancy a two week break? With a baby who needs just as much attention away as he/she does at home - are you sure? Think about what you’ll want a break from: it’ll be the relentlessness of looking after the baby, not getting enough sleep, and having no one to pick up the pieces that you’ll need.
So via the amazing Baby Friendly Boltholes, we found Chateau Rigaud’s House Parties, and it was the best decision we made in 2007. It only lasts 4 nights, but the lush rooms, incredible food, laid-back atmosphere and, oh did I mention, the on-site childcare did us more good in that short time than any number of weeks anywhere else.
